Up to how much do you think a lender will accept on a short sale offer based on the BPO (Broker Price Opinion)? 70%? 80%?

When performing a short sale on the stock market, how much time are you given before you need to buy the stock back? Also, when I do a short sale am I typically going to be selling the actual brokerage’s stock? (as I don’t currently know anyone that would be willing to lend me theirs.

Do you need to be behind on payments for the lender to accept the short sale?

We are in a position to approve a short sale on our house. we have to chose between a short sale and a foreclosure. What are the individual ramifications for each on our credit? If we take the short sale, are we going to be taxed on the difference in price between our purchase price and our selling price?
